Local Government Employment Law
The intersection between employment law and government law can be a tricky one and difficult to navigate. This is especially true for municipalities, county governments and school boards who may not have the benefit of universal federal and state regulations and uniform state-wide employment policies. Governmental employers must not only deal with “regular” employment laws, but must also contend with myriad governmental regulations and laws applicable only to government employees. We have counseled local governments on various employment law issues, wage and hours issues, First Amendment/free speech issues, Fourth Amendment/search and seizure issues (including drug testing issues), and civil rights laws that are uniquely applicable to government employers.
